description

Vegetative characteristics

Betonica betoniciflora is a perennial herbaceous plant and reaches heights of 75 to 100 centimeters. It forms an underground, nodular rhizome as a survival organ. The upright, coarse stem is covered at the base with backward-facing, long, dense limb hairs, hairy upwards ( indument ).

The leaves stand together in a basal rosette and are distributed opposite on the stem. With a length of 13 to 15 centimeters and a width of 4 to 5 centimeters, the basal leaves are narrow-oval, with a sloping blade base and rounded teeth. The upper stem leaves are 5 to 6 inches long, 2 to 3 inches wide, sawn on the edge, the uppermost stem leaves are lanceolate, undivided, on the top with scattered short hairs on the underside with long hairs on the veins. The lower leaves are short stalked. The upper stem leaves are sessile.

Generative characteristics

The flowering period extends from June to August. The inflorescence consists of pseudo whorls with ten to twelve sessile flowers, which form a compact end inflorescence in a compact pseudo-ear and only one or two blossoms in the pseudo-whorls set down below. With a length of 12 to 17 millimeters, the lanceolate bracts are as long or shorter as the calyx.

The hermaphrodite flowers are zygomorphic and five-fold with a double flower envelope . The five sepals are fused with tubes and have short link hairs scattered around. The calyx tube is 10 to 12 millimeters long. The five calyx teeth are lanceolate with a length of 5 to 6 millimeters with a pointed upper end. The petals are purple in color. The 12 to 15 millimeter long crown tube is strongly protruding and irregularly covered with hair from the crown opening to the middle. The upper lip is slightly curved, as long as the lower lip and hairy on top. The lower lip has a broad, oval central lobe and the same long lateral obovate corolla lobes. The stamens rise above the corolla.

The triangular partial fruits are furrowed longitudinally.

Occurrence

Betonica betoniciflora occurs in Central Asia in the Pamir-Alai and the Tien-Shan .

Betonica betoniciflora thrives in the forest and shrubbery zone on open forest areas as well as in shrubbery and juniper heaths.

Taxonomy

RF collected the holotype from the Osten-Sacken ("from the Ili Ala-Tau" - "At the entrance to the Kastek Gorge" July 5, 1867), which is deposited in Saint Petersburg . The name Stachys betoniciflora was created in 1869 by Franz Joseph Ruprecht in Sertum Tianschanicum. Botanical results of a trip in the middle Tian-Schan , p. 66 used for the first time. The valid first description of the Basionym Stachys betoniciflora was 1913 by Olga Alexandrowna Fedtschenko and Boris Alexjewitsch Fedtschenko in Consp. Fl. Turkestanicae , Volume 5, p. 165. The new combination to Betonica betoniciflora (Rupr. Ex O.Fedtsch. & B.Fedtsch. ) Sennikov was published in 2013 in Alexander N. Sennikov, Georgy A. Lazkov: Taxonomic corrections and new records in vascular plants of Kyrgyzstan, 2. In: Memoranda Societatis per Fauna et Flora Fennica. Volume 89, p. 131 published.

Another synonym for Betonica betoniciflora (Rupr. Ex O.Fedtsch. & B.Fedtsch. ) Sennikov is Betonica foliosa Rupr. non C. Presl .
