Better Than Cash Alliance

Better Than Cash Alliance (in German: "Besser-als-Bargeld-Bündnis") is a worldwide association of governments, companies and international organizations that aims to accelerate the transition from cash to digital payments .

The alliance describes itself as a UN-based organization, because the United Nations Capital Development Fund in New York provides the rooms for the secretariat.

The alliance has 68 members. It works with the UN and other global organizations, in particular the G20's Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion (GPFI) . The seat is in New York .

The German federal government supported the Better Than Cash Alliance in the years 2016-2018 with a total of 500,000 euros.

According to business journalist Norbert Häring , the alliance primarily serves the business interests of large companies from the financial and IT sectors. He also criticizes: Digital payment methods are "used as one of the main drivers for the introduction and expansion of biometric identification in everyday life - through fingerprints , facial recognition and, in the future, perhaps even DNA ." The alliance promotes the worldwide with the promise of wanting to eradicate poverty Enforcement of cashless payment transactions. He writes: "Especially for the poor and the poorest in rural areas there is no technology that enables everyone to participate in the economic process as easily as cash." That Saudi Arabia, of all places, is giving the G20 a guideline with the support of the Better Than Cash Alliance, Häring believes that how one should better empower women financially is bold and cynical.
