Betty in New York ( Spanish original title: Betty en NY ) is an American telenovela that was produced by Telemundo Global Studios. The telenovela is based on the successful Colombian telenovela Yo soy Betty, la fea , which was also used as a template for Verliebt in Berlin and Ugly Betty . The telenovela premiered on February 6, 2019 on the Spanish-language US broadcaster Telemundo . The German-language first broadcast took place with a preview of the first two episodes on July 26, 2020, and continued with the regular broadcast starting on July 27, 2020 on Sixx .

Beatriz "Betty" Aurora Rincón is a young, well-qualified, intelligent, but somewhat shy Mexican woman who lives in New York City and tries to fulfill her dreams there. Betty is steadily reduced to her appearance and often finds out that she does not correspond to the common beauty ideals, rejection. After looking in vain for a job for six months, Betty decides to take a job that is way below her qualifications. From then on, Betty worked, initially as an intern, later as the managing director's personal secretary, at the well-known fashion company V & M Fashion. Betty is now in a very superficial and scheming world, in which she is mocked and humiliated on a daily basis because of her inconspicuous appearance, and she is said to have completely lacked the right style. But despite her colleagues, Betty is more than willing not to let herself get down. And another challenge awaits Betty, which neither her strong will nor all of her positive qualities can help, and that is to find true love.
