Beutolomäus (Beutolomäus Sack, from Beutel and Bartholomäus ; nickname: Beuto) is a fictional Christmas character that appears on the children's television channel KiKA in the pre-Christmas program. According to KiKA, the stories with Beutolomäus are the most successful self-produced series in the children's channel. The stories were produced by Studio.TV.Film , and WunderWerk GmbH has been responsible for production since 2017 . The “Beutolomäus” doll was implemented and looked after by Hagen Tilp from 2004 onwards. Beutolomäus Sack is played from 2005 to 2012 by the puppeteer and speaker Alexis Krüger , before that by Siegfried Böhmke , Martin Paas and Thomas Rohloff . The puppeteer sat wired on a rubber ball and let the sack bounce. He could follow the movements on a monitor that he tied to his leg. Since 2017, Beutolomäus has been shown completely computer-animated and spoken by Constantin von Jascheroff .

history

The character Beutolomäus was developed in 1997 for the children's program at KiKA. Since the foundation of the children's channel, Beutolomäus has appeared in the pre-Christmas program. The figure was developed as a Christmas identification figure for the station and as a counterweight to the American Santa Claus films. The children's channel wanted to create a character based on the European Santa Claus myth, so American elements such as Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer , helping elves or a residence at the North Pole are kept out of the series. Originally, Santa Claus did not travel by reindeer sleigh, but with a secret pipe system. First the figure should be named Bartholomew . However, the idea was discarded and a new name was developed to make it easier for children to identify with Beutolomäus. In 2011, some series were also broadcast in the first shortened to feature length.

About the figure

Beutolomäus sack is a burlap sack with a face and a large bulbous nose. On his sack “body” he has an X patch that looks like the X in the former KiKA logo. He is the "only true sack of Santa Claus". When the population increased in the Middle Ages and Santa Claus had to deliver more and more presents to the children, he needed new sacks in which all the presents fit. The master tailor Johann created a sack for him that was so extraordinary that a second-hand dealer gave him two magical button eyes for his work. It was through these eyes that Beutolomew came to life. But Johann's wife Auguste was not allowed to find out, who had asked him to sew ten simple jute sacks for Santa Claus. Beutolomäus is a mostly good-hearted, if very skeptical, character. He shows courage, e.g. B. when he chases a robber who wanted to rob the bard Wilhelm Wohlklang.
