Bhawani Mandi ( Hindi भवानीमंडी ) is a city with about 50,000 inhabitants in the Jhalawar district in the Indian state of Rajasthan . The city has an important train station.

Location and climate

Bhawani Mandi is located in the southeastern tip of Rajasthan directly on the border with the state of Madhya Pradesh at an altitude of approx. 420  m . The megacity of Kota is located approx. 115 km to the north. The climate is temperate to warm; Rain (approx. 810 mm / year) almost only falls in the summer monsoon months .

Just under 73.5% of the city's residents are Hindus and around 21.5% are Muslims ; the rest is made up of Jains , Christians , Sikhs and Buddhists . The male population is about 7% higher than the female. Approx. 20% of the population are illiterate . Most residents speak Rajasthani or Hindi as their mother tongue, but English is also understood.

economy

Bhawani Mandi is the mercantile, artisanal and administrative center of a highly agriculturally oriented region in which there are several orange tree plantations. Since the city has an important train station on the Delhi - Mumbai route , smaller industrial and service companies have also settled here.

history

The city, located on an important rail link, was founded in 1911 by Bhawani Singh, the then ruler of the princely state of Jhalawar .

Attractions

The comparatively young city has no historically or culturally significant sights.
