BiNe - bisexual network

BiNe - Bisexual Network e. V. is the only association of groups and individuals of the bi-movement in the German-speaking area. The association has been based in Frankfurt am Main since 2005 , previously in Potsdam . In 2016 it had around 150 members. The association is a non-profit organization.

History of origin

Since the early 1980s , bisexual women and men in Germany have been reflecting on their way of life and self-confidently advocating it as a possible form of sexuality .

After founding several local self-help groups , organizing the first national so-called "bi-meeting" since 1988 and a nationwide network of bisexuals with the support of Deutsche AIDS-Hilfe e. V., BiNe - Bisexual Network e. V.

Act

BiNe e. V. provides information and public relations work on the subject of bisexuality , supports the establishment and maintenance of self-help groups, cooperates with socially relevant groups and initiatives, and collects and disseminates relevant information.

The association offers individual advice via an advice telephone. A website offers bisexuals inside and outside the association current information and numerous contact options. A group list shows local bi-groups and contact persons throughout Germany. Web forums make bisexual discourse accessible to a wider public. The resulting online community extends far beyond the actual club boundaries.

In spring and autumn, BiNe e. V. Bi-meetings lasting several days, which are open to all interested parties. The aim is to create a space free of explanation for a few days a year , which, alternating between thematic workshops and shared leisure time, promotes self-awareness among like-minded people and strengthens the identification .

The BiJou magazine

The association has been publishing BiJou , the bisexual journal , since 1994 . Right from the start, it is aimed at all people who are interested in the subject of bisexuality. At times it also serves the association as a membership magazine. BiJou is available in selected bookstores and at street festivals such as Christopher Street Day . It can also be obtained from local self-help groups close to the association. The edition is currently 500 copies, plus two online versions (a PDF document and HTML).

The subject matter, type, quality and scope of the articles in the BiJou vary greatly. Most of the articles relate directly or indirectly to bisexuality , of course, but there is also space for related topics such as polyamory , homosexuality , transgender , intersexuality , BDSM , sex per se . A recent issue reported on Yaoi , gay mangas by and for women, as well as the topic of “Bisexuality and Church ”. Reports and photos from the members' meetings are also published.

International cooperation

BiNe e. V. is a member of the International Lesbian and Gay Association (ILGA) and is part of an emerging European network of bisexuals. There is a mutual membership agreement with the LNBi , a national association of bisexuals in the Netherlands.

In 1996 the association is the organizer of the 4th International Bisexual Symposium (IBIS) in Berlin with the motto "The many faces of bisexuality - diversity of bisexual relationships". Guests are u. a. Fritz Klein , Oswalt Kolle and Dr. Erwin J. Haeberle .

2001 Participation in the 1st European Bisexual Conference (EBC1) in Rotterdam (Netherlands) with the motto "Same preferences, different lifestyles", u. a. with Fritz Klein .

2003 Participation in the 2nd European Bisexual Conference (EBC2) in Dublin (Ireland) with the motto "Loving the difference", u. a. with Robyn Ochs .

2010 Participation with a delegation of thirteen at the 10th International Bisexual Conference (IBC10) in London (Great Britain), u. a. also with Robyn Ochs.
