The biathlon stadium Sylvie Becaert ( French Stade de biathlon Sylvie Becaert ) is a competition venue for biathlon in France. The stadium is named after the former French biathlete and world champion Sylvie Becaert .
It is currently the only stadium in France that has the necessary license to host races as part of the Biathlon World Cup .
Data
location
The stadium is located in the Haute-Savoie region in the French region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes in the area of the rural town Le Grand-Bornand . This acts both as the operator of the stadium and as an organizer of biathlon competitions together with the capital of the department , Annecy, about 30 km to the west .
The facility is at an altitude of 928 m , the lowest point of the trails is 928 m , the highest at 990 m .
Furnishing
The stadium has an A license , which is required to hold biathlon world cups and world championships. In contrast to other places like Ruhpolding or Hochfilzen , whose biathlon stadiums have numerous functional buildings, grandstands and other permanently installed facilities, in Le Grand-Bornand 80% of the buildings required to host the competitions are only being erected temporarily. This also includes bridges, underpasses and the grandstands. The congress hall houses the press and VIP area, another part of the organizing committee is housed in the nearby ice rink. The trails are designed in such a way that they adapt to the landscape and the agricultural areas.
Up to 30,000 m³ of artificial snow can be produced on site.
Since the stadium has few fixed facilities and there are no paved trails for training with roller skis, the facility is not used as a training facility in summer.
construction
The stadium was built in 2010. The municipality of Le Grand-Bornand raised almost half of the four million euros in construction costs.
particularities
Le Grand-Bornand is the only biathlon World Cup venue where parts of the route run directly through the village.
Events
biathlon
The first biathlon event after construction was the final of the IBU Cup in March 2011. The biathlon races planned for December 2011 for winter 2011/12 had to be canceled due to lack of snow and were held in Hochfilzen , Austria . Two years later, in December 2013, the first races of the 2013/14 World Cup took place in Annecy / Le Grand-Bornand. In winter 2017/18 and 2019/20 also competitions took place. For the years 2020/21 and 2021/22 , the stadium is again planned as the last venue in December.
Cycling
The finish area of the 10th stage of the Tour de France 2018 was in the Sylvie Becaert stadium.
