The cross-country and biathlon center in Hochfilzen / Pillerseetal (Austria) is a training and competition center for biathlon and cross-country skiing in the Austrian state of Tyrol .

history

The biathlon and cross-country skiing stadium, built around 1965, opened in 1967. Since December 1986, Hochfilzen has been a regular venue for the Biathlon World Cup . In Austria, World Cup races were held in Feistritz and Bad Gastein , among others . Since December 2003, either a World Cup or a biathlon world championship has been held in Hochfilzen every winter . In addition, Hochfilzen hosted the 1978 biathlon world championships , the team competitions of the 1998 biathlon world championships and the 2005 biathlon world championships . Other major events included a. the Biathlon Junior World Championships 2000. In February 2017, the Biathlon World Championships 2017 took place in Hochfilzen .

The facility is an important training and Olympic base for ÖSV athletes . The training and competition center includes functional buildings, cross-country skiing trails, a shooting range suitable for the World Cup, an indoor shooting range and asphalt roller-skis .

location

The cross-country and biathlon center is located on the eastern edge of the Tyrolean community of Hochfilzen at almost 1000 m above sea level. Hochfilzen is located in the Pillerseetal in the Kitzbühel district , right on the border with the state of Salzburg .

Furnishing

The functional buildings were significantly expanded and modernized before the 2017 Biathlon World Championships . In this context, a total of 20 million euros was invested in the infrastructure. The extension and conversion of the main building was the focus of the renovation work. The newly constructed team and service building includes 30 wax and service cabins with a modern exhaust air system as well as 30 changing rooms and has a direct, short connection to the main building. A new indoor shooting range with a treadmill complements the facilities and offers 570 m² of space for the media center with a direct view of the shooting range during the competitions.
