Libraries in South Tyrol

A total of around 280 public libraries in South Tyrol have a total of more than three million volumes. Around 85.5% of the workforce work on a voluntary basis; The full-time libraries include ten central and valley libraries. There are also 16 recognized specialist and study libraries , 63 recognized school libraries and the Merano language media library .

The interest Association of South Tyrolean libraries is founded in 1981, Library Association South Tyrol . Since 2009 this organizes the annual library day .

Scientific university and state libraries

South Tyrol has six scientific libraries. The two largest are the state library “Dr. Friedrich Teßmann ” with around 450,000 media units and the library of the Free University of Bozen with around 210,000 media units. Online library

The South Tyrolean online library Biblio24 has been in operation since 2010 with a download offer of over 10,000 titles (areas: e-book, e-audio, e-music, e-video, e-paper). The portal operated by the "Dr. Friedrich Teßmann" regional library can be used free of charge throughout South Tyrol. Since 2015, the catalogs of around 70 libraries have been put online as part of the "Library South Tyrol" project.
