Big Pine is a census-designated place in Inyo County in the state of California in the United States . At the last census in 2010 , the place had 1756 inhabitants.

geography

The place is located in the east of the state of California, east of the Sierra Nevada in the Owens Valley . The Owens River flows to the east , while the mountains begin directly to the west of the village. This section of the Sierra Nevada is home to the Palisades , a group of mountains with some of the highest peaks in the state. In the northeast are the White Mountains and in the southeast the Inyo Mountains .

To the north are the small towns of Keough Hot Springs and Wilkerson , the nearest town is Bishop about 24 km north-northwest as the crow flies. Fish Springs , Blackrock and Independence are to the south . To the east is the abandoned town of Zurich .

traffic

Big Pine is on US Highway 395 , which runs from the Canadian border in the north to the Mojave Desert in the south. The California State Route 168 ends at the place in the US Highway.
