Bihar Sharif ( Hindi बिहार शरीफ़ ; also Bihar Sharif ) is a city in the Indian state of Bihar .

The city is located in the north Indian plain 30 km south of the Ganges . It is the administrative seat of the Nalanda District . Biharsharif is located 60 km southeast of Patna . Biharsharif is a Municipal Corporation ( Nagar Nigam ). The city is divided into 46 wards . In the 2011 census, the population was just under 300,000. The national highways NH 20 and NH 33 cross in Biharsharif.
