William Stephen Beveridge (born July 1, 1909 in Ottawa , Ontario ; † February 13, 1995 there ) was a Canadian ice hockey goalkeeper who, during his playing career between 1929 and 1945, worked for the Detroit Cougars , Ottawa Senators , St. Louis Eagles , Montreal Maroons and New York Rangers has played in the National Hockey League .
Career
Beveridge first played between 1924 and 1929 for the Ottawa Shamrocks and Ottawa New Edinburghs, before he was bought Ottawa for the 1929/30 season by the Detroit Cougars of the National Hockey League . After a less than successful season, the goalkeeper returned to his hometown and was used by the Ottawa Senators in the NHL. When these suspended in the 1931/32 season, Beveridge found himself in the Canadian-American Hockey League with the Providence Reds , with whom he won the championship at the end of the season.
For the 1932/33 season , the Canadian returned to the Senators and also to the NHL, before he finally moved with the team to St. Louis in 1934, where the team then played as the St. Louis Eagles . Since the team finally stopped playing after the game year 1934/35 , Beveridge was selected by the Canadiens de Montréal in the Dispersal Draft , which distributed the remaining players of the team to the other NHL franchises . However, they immediately sold him to the reigning Stanley Cup winner Montreal Maroons , where the goalkeeper stayed until 1938.
He was then active in the International American Hockey League for the Syracuse Stars , New Haven Eagles , Providence Reds and Syracuse Stars and the Buffalo Bisons and Cleveland Barons in the American Hockey League . This loaned him to the New York Rangers from the NHL in January 1943 for the remainder of the 1942/43 season . During World War II he joined the Canadian Army and ended his career, which he ended in 1945, with the Ottawa Commandos.
