Bill Laurance

Bill Laurance (born April 2, 1981 ) is a British fusion musician ( piano , composition , arrangement ) and music producer who makes cross-genre jazz and electronic music and first became internationally known as a member of the group Snarky Puppy .

Live and act

Laurance initially received classical piano lessons; Since the age of 14 he can be seen as a musician on the stages of international festivals. After studying at the University of Leeds , he worked with the trip-hop trio Morcheeba as well as with the saxophonist Chris Potter and the guitarist Lionel Loueke . As a founding member of Snarky Puppy , he was also involved in the albums Family Dinner Vol. 1 (2013, with the award-winning track "Something" with Lalah Hathaway ), Sylva (2015) and Culcha Vulcha (2016), which were awarded a Grammy .

In 2014 Laurance released his debut solo album Flint on GroundUp Music , which in the following years recorded the albums Swift (2015), Aftersun (2016, with performances by Snarky Puppy colleagues Michael League and Robert "Sput" Searight, as well as drummer Weedie Braimah New Orleans ) and Live at the Union Chapel (2017) followed. In 2019 a solo album Cables was released . He toured Germany several times with his band. With the WDR Big Band he played his works several times in 2018 in a big band version under the direction of Bob Mintzer ; the resulting album Live at the Philharmonie Cologne was album of the week for Hifi Trends magazine .

He also worked with Miss Dynamite and YolanDa Brown . He has also worked with dance companies such as Alvin Ailey , Ballet Rambert and English National Ballet and Matthew Bourne, as well as the Leeds-based organizations Phoenix Dance and Northern Ballet Theater . He also directed the electronic duo The Fix and composed for the film ( Initials SG ).
