Bill Mobley
Bill Mobley (* 7. April 1953 in Memphis , Tennessee ) is an American jazz - musicians ( trumpet and flugelhorn ), composer , bandleader, arranger and professor.
Live and act
Mobley came to New York City in 1987 and became known in the late 1980s for recordings with pianist Donald Brown and Geoff Keezer (1988), and in the early 1990s with Harold Mabern , Bill Easley ( First Call , 1991). During this time he also performed in New York with Marvin "Smitty" Smith , the Clifford Jordan Big Band, George Coleman , James Williams , Mingus Dynasty , TS Monk , the Maria Schneider Orchestra and the Toshiko Akiyoshi Orchestra . In 1996 Mobley recorded his first album under his own name with prominent guest musicians for the Evidence label , on which Bill Easley, Bill Pierce , Christian McBride and Alan Dawson took part. With the Space Time Orchestra and guests such as Donald Brown, Harold Mabern, James Williams and Mulgrew Miller , he recorded two live albums in 1996 ( Live at Smalls ). Around 2000 he worked with Jean Toussaint and Clark Gayton .
He has been leading his own Space Time Jazz Orchestra since the mid-1990s and now also plays with his Mobscene Quintet . Bill Mobley taught music at Berklee College of Music in Boston from 1982 to 1986 ; he now works at William Paterson University in Wayne, New Jersey, and leads jazz workshops in Maine and at public schools in New York.
In the opinion of Richard Cook and Brian Morton, the trumpeters used as trumpeters include Fats Navarro , Booker Little , Clifford Brown and Woody Shaw ; as an arranger he refers to the work of Thad Jones .
