William Earl "Bill" Stein (born May 28, 1899 in Two Harbors , Minnesota , USA ; † August 27, 1983 , ibid), nickname : Red , was an American American football player . He played for the Duluth Kelleys / Eskimos and the Chicago Cardinals in the National Football League (NFL).

Player career

Bill Stein signed a professional contract with the Duluth Kelleys in 1923, who were trained by Joey Sternaman . In 1926, the later members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame John McNally , Ernie Nevers and Walt Kiesling joined the team from Duluth , which was renamed Duluth Eskimos later that year. However, this did not change the team's unsuccessfulness. After another game year, the Eskimos had to stop playing. Stein won only 16 of 39 games with his team. For the 1928 season he joined the Chicago Cardinals . In 1929, the Cardinals Ernie Nevers and the former teammate of Stein in the Eskimos Russ Method signed. But Stein did not win the title with the team from Chicago either. He ended his playing career after this game year,

After the playing career

Bill Stein returned to his hometown of Two Harbors. He ran a club and a liquor store there. In 1997, he was posthumously inducted into the Two Harbors High School Athletic Hall of Fame .
