Bille Brown

William Gerard "Bille" Brown ; AM (born January 11, 1952 in Biloela , Queensland , † January 13, 2013 in Chermside near Brisbane , Queensland) was an Australian film and theater actor .

Life

After attending school, Bille Brown studied drama at the University of Queensland from 1969 to 1971 . He received his Bachelor of Arts . A short time later, in 1971, he gained his first experience as an actor at the Queensland Theater Company - at his side the future Australian Oscar winner Geoffrey Rush .

In 1976 Brown moved to England , where he became a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) and performed first in Stratford-upon-Avon and later in London . In 1981 Brown became the first Australian actor to direct his own play, the pantomime The Swan Down Gloves , in the conservative British RSC . He also went on tour abroad and played in theaters in Paris , Munich , Berlin and Vienna .

In 1982 Brown moved to the United States , where he became Artist in Residence at the State University of New York . In 1984 he premiered on Broadway in the play A Christmas Carol . In the years to come, Brown often changed his place of residence and work and lived in New York City , but also in London and Sydney . It wasn't until 1996 that Brown moved permanent residence to Australia; he lived in Ascot , Queensland.

Brown began working as a film actor relatively late compared to other actors; the first film he was seen in was the comedy Wilde Kreaturen from 1997. After a supporting role in Oscar and Lucinda , also in 1997, he was in 1999 for the Australian television series Big Sky in front of the camera. This was followed by appearances in television and short films, most of which were popular in Australia. He received international attention in 2010 when he played a leading role in the fantasy film The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn .

In 2011 Brown became a member of the Order of Australia .

Bille Brown died of colon cancer two days after his 61st birthday on January 13, 2013 .
