Billy Idol is the first album that British singer Billy Idol recorded as a solo artist after the end of the band Generation X and released in 1982. It established a long-term collaboration with guitarist Steve Stevens , which initially lasted until 1989 and continued from 2005 with the album Devil's Playground .
background
The punk band Generation X, founded in 1976, has released a total of three albums with different line-ups over the course of its existence. By the time the last album, Kiss Me Deadly, was released in 1981, the group had already broken up. Billy Idol went to the USA to conquer the pop market. Here, musically, he strayed far from his origins. He was discovered and promoted by the then very influential Kiss manager Bill Aucoin .
Idol recorded his debut album at Westlake Audio Studios. Ten songs were selected for the album, which was released on July 16, 1982 as a record and music cassette . It was only released on CD in 1984.
In August, the title Mony Mony , a cover version of the 1968 song by Tommy James & the Shondells , which was not on the album , was released as a single , but did not hit the music charts . The following two singles, Hot in the City and White Wedding , were released in May and July 1982, respectively, and hit the charts.
