Bingo is the first solo album by Bela B , the drummer of. German punk rock - band doctors .

background

Initially, Bela B., whose real name was Dirk Felsenheimer, wanted to name his album the B-side . However, because a DVD by the Beatsteaks that was released in late 2005 already had this title, he finally decided to call it bingo .

The album was released on May 12, 2006, after the first single Tag with dust jacket was released on April 15, 2006 . It rose from zero to number 2 in the German and Austrian charts.

The first live tour entitled Bela B's Bingo Show started just four weeks after publication . Here the artist also played solo for the first time at the largest German rock festivals Rock am Ring and Rock im Park , where he did not play drums as usual, but acted as a guitarist and singer.

The video clip belonging to the first single released is a parody of the remake of Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which was released shortly before . Bela B. plays herself as a chocolate factory owner, in the original Willy Wonka, who is portrayed in the film adaptation by Johnny Depp .

According to Bela, the idea of producing a solo album came about when he recorded the song Justified & Ancient for a KLF Tribute sampler with guitarist Olsen Involtini , Wayne Jackson and singer Lula . In addition, while medical guitarist Farin Urlaub is solo successful , he also wanted to try out new styles of music himself. “ With the doctors we have our expanded cosmos and certain expectations, ” says Bela.

The duet with Lee Hazlewood , entitled Lee Hazlewood & the first song of the day, has been recorded bilingually in German and English and incorporates country and surf elements. However , there was no collaboration with Dick Dale , who was supposed to play the guitar for this title.

Bela recorded another duet with the title 1. 2. 3.… together with the presenter Charlotte Roche , for whom he presented the program Fast Forward as a pregnancy substitute . The piece was released as the second single on July 21, 2006.

The third single called She hat was missed was released on November 3, 2006. In addition to the album version, this also contains various B-sides: She missed the Mambo (Bela B. feat. Roy Paci & Aretuska ), (Play me that song of) what you have missed (sung by We Are Scientists ) and another live recording from the Lunik: Z . The fourth and final single Guitar Down was released on August 17th, 2007.

reception

"[...] So" Bingo "surprises despite the knowledge of the doctor's drummer's achievements with an extremely varied range of songs, beautiful refrains, many little everyday truths and a perfectly balanced mix of slapstick and seriousness (which is still too shallow during the advised quasi-openers "Guitar Down" can hardly believe). Farin last sounded so fresh on his solo debut. And somehow you feel like doing a new doctor album again. "
