Birgit Weihrauch (born May 19, 1943 in Kiel as Birgit Eggers ) is a German doctor. She was State Councilor in Bremen at the Bremen Senate .

biography

Weihrauch studied medicine from 1963 to 1969 at the University of Kiel , the University of Freiburg im Breisgau and the University of Munich . In 1969 she completed her studies with the medical state examination and the US state examination ECFMG. They received his doctorate in 1970 in Munich in the Department of Orthopedics Dr. med. and obtained her license to practice medicine in Kiel.

Since 1969 she has worked for several years as an assistant doctor at various hospitals in internal medicine and paediatrics in Kiel, Wiesbaden and Phoenix ( Arizona , USA) as well as in a general practice in Mainz . In 1974 she worked as an assistant doctor at the medical examination center in Mainz .

From 1982 to 1985 she was a consultant at the Federal Ministry of Labor in Bonn. From 1985 to 2005 she worked in the Ministry of Health of North Rhine-Westphalia as head of department for questions of psychiatric care, since 1988 as head of the group “Health Policy / Health Protection”, since 1995 also as deputy head of department and since 2004 as head of the health department.

In 2005, after the change of government in North Rhine-Westphalia, she became General Manager of the Epidemiological Cancer Register NRW gGmbH (EKR NRW) in Münster.

From August 22, 2006 until his retirement in 2007, Weihrauch was Bremen State Councilor in the department for work, women, health, youth and social affairs and thus deputy to Senator Karin Röpke (SPD) and Ingelore Rosenkötter (SPD).

Weihrauch has been honorary chairwoman of the board of the German Hospice and Palliative Association since October 2006 and honorary chairwoman of the German Hospice and Palliative Foundation since October 2008 .

In 2011 she was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon for her services to hospice and palliative care . In 2017 she received the Paracelsus Medal of the German Medical Association.

Weihrauch is married and has two children.
