history

In 1346 the Lords of Hirschberg waived their rights to the Rudolfstein and the associated villages, to which “Pirckh” belonged, opposite the Waldsassen monastery . According to the land register of the six offices of 1499, Birk consisted of four full and eight half farms and an inn. In 1634 the whole village was deserted by the hardships of the Thirty Years' War . The reconstruction took place in 1650, in 1676 there were already eight courtyards again, in 1787 a house with bar-fairness was named. From 1818 until the regional reform, the village belonged to the political community of Franconia . The old road from Wunsiedel to Weißenstadt, which was upgraded to Poststrasse in 1805 , ran through Birk . In 1830 the road was moved via Röslau . In 1860, Birk got a village school house that served the one-class school until 1970.
