Birkach am Forst (officially: Birkach a.Forst ) is a district of the municipality of Untersiemau in the Coburg district in Upper Franconia in Bavaria . The place has 211 inhabitants (as of 2014).

location

Birkach is located about 1.5 km southeast of Untersiemau, close to the Lichtenfelser Forest . The surrounding villages are Obersiemau in the north (1 km), Buch am Forst in the east (1 km), Tiefenroth in the south (2 km) and Zilgendorf and Großheirath in the south-west (3 km). The federal road 4 is 3 km away from Birkach.

history

Birkach was first mentioned in a document in 1325. A manor with a castle ruled the village. The Lords of Untersiemau Götz von Schenk and his wife Anna founded a parsonage and measurement pillars in Birkach am Forst in 1417 .

The community of Birkach am Forst was incorporated into Untersiemau on January 1, 1978.

Worth seeing

  • The half-timbered hipped roof house at Siemauer Straße 2, which is partly slated in a German template and shows traces of painting, dates from the end of the 18th century and was included in the list of listed buildings of the state of Bavaria.
  • In the center of the village is the Eller brewery, one of the numerous Upper Franconian family breweries. It has existed since 1822 and also runs a restaurant in town.

Associations and regular events

The Birkach volunteer fire brigade and the OGV Obersiemau-Birkach are the local associations. The parish fair takes place annually in the first week of September and the fountain festival on the third Saturday in July.
