history
Meschenbach was first mentioned in 1288 as "Eschenbach".
For the year 1551 there is a rest area with a beer tavern in Meschenbach on the old trade route to Coburg. After the Thirty Years' War a street inn was built. In 1775 the innkeeper of the “Zumgrün Baum” inn, Georg Michael Stahn, received permission to run the brewery. In 1975 the master brewer Friedrich Müller, who was also the mayor of Meschenbach, stopped the brewing operations of the Meschenbacher brewery. The associated inn with a figurehead from the 18th century remained.
On December 4, 1900, Meschenbach got a connection to the railway network with the Itzgrundbahn and a stop. In 1984 passenger traffic was stopped and in 2001 the line was closed. Today a cycle path connects Meschenbach with Niederfüllbach along the former railway line.
In a referendum on November 30, 1919, a Meschenbach citizen voted for the Free State of Coburg to join the Thuringian state and 46 against. From July 1, 1920, Meschenbach belonged to the Free State of Bavaria .
On July 1, 1975, Meschenbach was incorporated as a district in the municipality of Untersiemau.
