Stöppach is a district of the Upper Franconian community of Untersiemau in the Coburg district .
location
Stöppach is about six kilometers south of Coburg , embedded in a side valley of the Itz , at the foot of the Hohenstein. Communal roads lead to Meschenbach , Scherneck , Haarth and Hohenstein. The Grundgraben, a right tributary of the Itz, flows through the village and feeds the village pond.
history
Stöppach was first mentioned in 1317 as "Stetebach". The settlement has been called Stöppach since 1790.
At the beginning of the 14th century Stöppach was under the rule of the Henneberger . In 1353 the place with the Coburg Land came by inheritance to the Wettins and was thus part of the Electorate of Saxony from 1485 , from which the Duchy of Saxony-Coburg later emerged. Stöppach has been part of the Evangelical Lutheran parish of Scherneck for centuries.
The parish hall, a two-story saddle-roofed house with a turret and half-timbered upper floor, is probably the oldest building in the town and dates from the middle of the 18th century. In 1862 a school building was opened and the men's choir was founded.
In a referendum on November 30, 1919, eight citizens of Stöppach voted for the Free State of Coburg to join the Thuringian state and 81 against. From July 1, 1920, Stöppach also belonged to the Free State of Bavaria .
In 1967 the community won the competition Das Schönere Dorf in the district of Coburg. The village received a fountain by the Naila sculptor Sigurd Bischoff as first prize .
On July 1, 1972, Stöppach was incorporated into the Untersiemau community as a district.
