The Diocese of Ecatepec was established on June 28, 1995 by Pope John Paul II with the Apostolic Constitution Ad curam pastoralem from the cession of the Archdiocese of Tlalnepantla and the Diocese of Texcoco and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Tlalnepantla as a suffragan .
