The Roman Catholic Diocese of Eshowe ( Latin Dioecesis Eshovensis , English Diocese of Eshowe ) is in South Africa situated Roman Catholic diocese based in Eshowe .
history
The diocese Eshowe was on August 27, 1921 by Pope Benedict XV. established from the cession of territory by the Apostolic Vicariate Natal as the Apostolic Prefecture of Zululand . On December 11, 1923, the Apostolic Prefecture Zululand was by Pope Pius XI. Elevated to the Apostolic Vicariate and renamed the Apostolic Vicariate Eshowe .
The Apostolic Vicariate Eshowe was on January 11, 1951 by Pope Pius XII. raised to the diocese and subordinated to the archdiocese of Durban as a suffragan . On November 12, 1962, the Diocese of Eshowe gave up parts of its territory to establish the Apostolic Prefecture of Ingwavuma .
