The Archdiocese of Spoleto-Norcia ( Latin : Archidioecesis Spoletana-Nursina , Italian : Arcidiocesi di Spoleto-Norcia ) is an archdiocese of the Roman Catholic Church in Italy with its seat in Spoleto . It reports directly to the Holy See and belongs to the ecclesiastical region of Umbria .

history

The archbishopric was founded in the 1st century as the diocese of Spoleto, which rose to the rank of archbishopric on January 5, 1821, but without becoming the seat of a metropolitan .

After a sharp decrease in the population and thus the diocesans, the archbishopric was united with the diocese of Norcia on September 30, 1986 as part of the reorganization of the Italian dioceses and was given the name Archdiocese of Spoleto-Norcia . In the following years numerous parishes were dissolved and the number of diocesan and religious priests continued to decrease.
