Renato Boccardo (born December 21, 1952 in Sant'Ambrogio di Torino , Province of Turin , Italy ) is Archbishop of Spoleto-Norcia .

Life

Boccardo, from Piedmont , was a seminarian at the Almo Collegio Capranica in Rome and was ordained a priest for the diocese of Susa on June 25, 1977 .

In 1982 he entered the service of the Holy See as a diplomat and worked at the Apostolic Nunciatures in Bolivia , Cameroon and France . Pope John Paul II awarded him the honorary title of Chaplain to His Holiness ( Monsignor ) on January 20, 1986 . On July 8, 1992, John Paul II appointed him head of the youth office in the Pontifical Council for the Laity ; In this activity he was responsible for the World Youth Days 1993, 1995, 1997 and 2000 and for the pilgrimage of European youth in 1995 to Loreto .

On June 22, 1994, John Paul II bestowed him the title of Honorary Prelate of His Holiness and on November 29, 2003 appointed him Titular Bishop of Aquipendium and Secretary of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications . At the same time he was serving as the papal travel marshal. He was ordained bishop by Cardinal State Secretary Angelo Sodano on January 24, 2004 in St. Peter's Basilica . Renato Boccardo chose the motto Non erubesco evangelium (“I am not ashamed of the gospel”), which comes from Paul's letter to the Romans ( Rom 1.16  EU ). On February 22, 2005, John Paul II appointed him Secretary General of the Governor of the Vatican State . In this role, Boccardo was also responsible for the technical and logistical organization of the Sedis vacancy in April 2005.

On July 16, 2009 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . to the Archbishop of Spoleto-Norcia . The inauguration took place on October 11th of the same year.
