Fight of the landless in 2012

In June 2012 the bodies of two farmers were discovered in a violent evacuation operation aimed at landless farmers on a piece of land owned by former Senator Blas Riquelme. At least nine landless people and six police officers were killed during the subsequent actions. The political crisis after the massacre led to the replacement of the previous Interior Minister of Paraguay. His successor, the former Attorney General Rubén Candia Amarilla , has suspected the illegal group “Paraguayan People's Army” (EPP) of inciting or even armed the landless .
