The blue Triteleie ( Triteleia laxa , Syn .: Brodiaea laxa (Benth.) S. Watson ) is a species of the genus Triteleia in the subfamily of the Brodiaeoideae .
features
The Blue Triteleie is a perennial herbaceous plant that reaches heights of (10) 40 to 70 centimeters. This geophyte forms onions as persistent organs. The leaves are keeled and have a length of 20 to 40 centimeters and a width of (rarely 0.4 to) usually 0.8 to 2.5 centimeters.
The light blue or deep purple-blue, rarely white flower envelope is 18 to 47 millimeters long. The stalk of the ovary is two to three times as long as the ovary itself. The stamens are not widened.
The flowering period extends from May to July.
Occurrence
The Blue Triteleie occurs in western North America in California and southern Oregon in open forests and grasslands on heavy soils up to altitudes of 1200 meters.
use
The blue Triteleie is rarely used as an ornamental plant in rock gardens, steppe beds and as a cut flower. It has been in culture since 1833 at the latest. There are some varieties with light blue, blue and purple flowers. Similar are Triteleia coronaria and T. californica. The hybrid Triteleia × tubergenii L.W.Lenz from Triteleia laxa and Langstielige Triteleie ( Triteleia peduncularis ) has lavender-colored flowers. In severe frost, a cover with leaves is recommended, especially after budding. Light shade is endured. The leaves move in in late summer. The tubers are edible but small.
