The Bleikogel forms with its 2411  m above sea level. A. the second highest peak in the Tennengebirge in the northern Limestone Alps . Its elongated rock ridge rises in the eastern part of the mountain and breaks off on all sides with craggy slopes and small rock faces. The great difference in altitude between the summit and valley of the Lammer , which is over 1,700 meters, is remarkable . The panorama from Bleikogel is extensive and offers a view to the east to the Dachstein Mountains .

Routes

The Bleikogel can be climbed in summer by crossing a plateau or in winter as part of a ski tour. A tour to the Bleikogel alone is seldom undertaken due to its remoteness. In general, the summit is not visited very often, on nice summer days maybe half a dozen mountaineers climb it. The reason is not the difficulty, but the considerable length of the ascent. Nevertheless, surefootedness , a head for heights , good physical condition and alpine experience in the Tennengebirge are generally necessary. Unexpected dangers, such as getting lost in fog or sudden storms, make tours a dreaded undertaking. The few routes on the Bleikogel are:

  • From Abtenau , walking time: 7 hours, difference in altitude: 1700 m

This route crosses different levels of vegetation and finally leads to the roof of the Tennengebirge with difficulty level I according to UIAA .

  • From Wengerau, walking time: 6 hours, difference in altitude: 1600 m

The comparable alternative leads from Werfenweng to Bleikogel, it is only slightly shorter and has a number of strenuous counter-climbs.

Ski touring

The Bleikogel also offers the possibility of ski tours in this part of the Tennengebirge. As a rule, the routes described above are also possible, provided that there is sufficient snow in the lower areas. The Laufener cabin as well as the offers Dr. Heinrich Hackel Hut a winter room for ski touring. The Bleikogel is best known for its 1,700-meter descent on the north side to Unterberg (near Abtenau), the Trickl descent .
