particularities | Highest mountain in the Tennengebirge |
The Raucheck is at 2430 m above sea level. A. the highest mountain in the Tennengebirge in the Northern Limestone Alps . It breaks off to the south with up to 1000 meter high rock walls into the valley of the Salzach , while its north side slopes relatively flat over the extensive plateau into the barren Pitschenberg valley with the Leopold-Happisch-Haus .
location
The Raucheck rises in the southwest of the Tennengebirge east of the Lehnenden Stein and west of the Werfener Hochthron on the edge of the extensive karst plateau. From its highest point with the summit cross there is an excellent panorama, the most beautiful is the view of the opposite Hochkönig , of the rest of the Berchtesgaden Alps and to the south to the Hohe Tauern, for example to the Ankogel . The difference in height that the Raucheck has compared to Werfen in the Salzach Valley is remarkable . In between there are 1900 meters of altitude. Due to its location and the flattened plateau, the summit is popular with paragliders for stopovers and new starts.
Routes
Like most other mountains in the Tennengebirge, the Raucheck is easy to climb without climbing. For an ascent, however, surefootedness , a head for heights , good physical condition and alpine experience are necessary. Unexpected dangers, such as getting lost in fog or sudden storms, make the Tennengebirge a feared area among mountaineers. Even on beautiful summer days, the Raucheck is not particularly popular, although several huts are not far away. The main routes are:
- From Wengerau , walking time: five hours, difference in altitude: 1500 meters
A wonderful route that cannot be surpassed in terms of landscape begins in Wengerau near Werfenweng . The ascent leads over the Elmaualm first to the Werfener Hütte . An overnight stay there makes sense and the next day the difficult ascent over the throne ladder and the Throntal to the plateau follows. A short detour to the Edelweißerhütte is possible. Passing the Hiefler, you finally reach the summit of the Raucheck from the north, continuously marked and secured with iron ladders and wire ropes in the Throntal (I to UIAA ).
- From Mahdegg , walking time: four hours, difference in altitude: 1300 meters
The shortest and classic route, which is largely steep and strenuous, begins at the Unterholzbauern just below the Mahdegg Alm . The ascent leads over the Eiskeller and the Fieberhornkar to the Griesscharte and on to the plateau. A short detour to the Edelweißerhütte is possible. Passing the Hiefler you finally reach the summit of the Raucheck from the north, continuously marked and secured with wire ropes at the difficult points (I to UIAA ).
- From the Eisriesenwelt , walking time: four hours, difference in altitude: 900 meters
The easiest path in terms of height difference, but the most demanding in terms of difficulty. From the Dr.-Friedrich-Oedl-Haus near the Eisriesenwelt it goes on the Hochkogelsteig (II to UIAA , but secured) to a hunting lodge on the plateau. Then continue to the right (do not descend to Leopold-Happisch-Haus ) and over a long ridge past the Lehnenden Stein finally from the north to the summit of the Raucheck. Marked throughout and secured in difficult places.
