Tennengebirge as seen from the Leopold-Happisch-Haus (2011)

The Leopold-Happisch-Haus is a refuge of the Salzburg Section of Austria 's Friends of Nature , located in the western part of the Tennengebirge in the Salzburger Land .

location

The hut is located on a small, green hill at 1925  m above sea level. A. Height in the Pitschenberg valley. This arid high valley extends in the western part of the Tennengebirge and cuts the expansive plateau into two parts. Due to the remote location of this base, there have been difficulties in maintaining the management in recent years. The supply is complex and expensive, it is done exclusively by helicopter and porter. The Leopold-Happisch-Haus is a base for mountaineers, who from here can cross numerous plateaus and climb peaks in the Tennengebirge.

history

The house was named after the Austrian typesetter and worker sports functionary Leopold Happisch (born  April 1, 1863 in Vienna , †  November 19, 1951 in Berndorf ), the first secretary of the Friends of Nature International and editor of the magazine Der Naturfreund  .

Since the start of the hiking summer 2016, the Leopold-Happisch-Haus has been run as a self-catering shelter. This means that there is no longer a hut keeper on the hut and the climbers have to take care of themselves.

In 2017, 190,000 euros are planned for the rehabilitation of the water supply and wastewater treatment. Naturefriends pay almost 40,000 of them, but the majority is financed through federal and state subsidies.
