Höhe and thus offers a grandiose view, for example of the Hochkönig and the Hagengebirge , but also over the extensive plateau of the Tennengebirge. It is exposed to weather conditions such as storms, thunderstorms and blizzards without protection. On summer weekends, the Edelweißerhütte is alternately looked after by members of the Edelweiss Club, when mountaineers can spend the night here and get drinks. If it is closed, up to four people can sleep in the small emergency room.
history
In 1921 the Edelweissers built today's hut on the Streitmandl under difficult conditions. Aids such as helicopters or cable cars were not available. The construction was a remarkable achievement at the time when there was no way to get to the Streitmandl. The Edelweissers had to carry the wooden beams from Mahdegg up over 1,200 meters in altitude and then built the refuge, which was opened in the summer of 1922.
