The hut is located at 1575 m above sea level. A. Höhe on Achselkogel ( 1625 m above sea level ⊙ ) directly below the entrance to the Eisriesenwelt , the world's largest ice cave. This was accessed with a public road to the Eisriesenwelt car park ⊙ at an altitude of 1000 m and from there with a gondola lift ( valley station , Eisriesenwelt rest hut ) directly to the Oedlhaus ( mountain station ).
From here, the entrance can be reached in a few minutes on an elaborately prepared path. However, the hut is not only a destination for numerous tourists, but also the starting point for demanding mountain tours on the plateau of the Tennengebirge. The secured Hochkogelsteig leads from here to the plateau and to the Leopold-Happisch-Haus .
history
The history of the hut is inextricably linked with the exploration of the ice cave.
It is named after the Salzburg lawyer Dr. Friedrich Oedl (1894–1969). From 1919 he was a pioneer in exploring the giant ice world. The first researcher's hut, the researcher's hut, was built as early as 1920 , along with climbing facilities from Werfen to the entrance to the cave. Today's Oedlhaus was built in 1925. Friedrich Oedl also became the first managing director of the Eisriesenwelt-Gesellschaft mbH , the proceeds of which were used to expand and develop the cave. It wasn't until 1955 that the cable car was opened, which transports countless tourists up.
