The Ostpreußenhütte is an Alpine Club hut of the German Alpine Club at 1630 m above sea level. A. Height at the foot of the Hochkönig .
history
In memory of the Salzburg exiles who were expelled to East Prussia in 1731/32 , the hut was built by the Königsberg section (based in Munich ) of the German Alpine Club . The construction was made possible by Prince Friedrich Leopold of Prussia , who handed the property over to the DAV for this purpose. After only a year of construction, the East Prussia Hut on the 1630 m high Rettenbachriedel was inaugurated by Franz Broy on June 28, 1928. In the Krupp room hang two pictures with motifs from the Albertina songbook , which the Corps Masovia had donated to the hut. In 1945 the hut was confiscated by the Allies and returned to Austria . It wasn't until 1974 that the Königsberg section of the DAV, now located in Munich, was re-entered in the land register. The hut is located in the Berchtesgaden Alps in the Salzburg region, high above the Salzach valley, not far from Werfen .
location
Due to its easy accessibility, it is a very popular destination for hikers and day visitors, who stop here and enjoy the view of the Hochkönig. The Ostpreußenhütte is also an important base for mountaineers, who can get to the Franz-Eduard-Matras-Haus on the Hochkönig via the longest but easiest path . In winter, snowshoe hikes, sledge and ski tours are also possible; then the hut is also open from December 26th to mid-March.
