Blindia (German Blind-Moose ) is a genus of deciduous mosses from the Seligeriaceae family . It is named after Jean-Jacqes Blind (1806–1867), pastor in Münster / Alsace.

features

Blindia is cosmopolitan. The species grow on damp to wet (silicate) rocks. The plants are up to 10 centimeters tall. They have lanceolate, awl-shaped leaves that are brown at the base and have clearly differentiated, inflated, orange-brownish leaf wing cells. The oval to pear-shaped spore capsules have stomata and cone-shaped lids. Peristome teeth are smooth but can also be missing.

Systematics

The monotypical genus Stylostegium with the only species Stylostegium caespiticium , which used to be kept separately, is now generally assigned to Blindia .
