Blutbahnen is the sixth album by the Thuringian dark metal band Eisregen . It reached number 32 in the German album charts on May 11, 2007 and is the band's most successful album to date.

History of origin

After it had looked very bad for the future of the band for a long time, Eisregen was able to extend their contract with Massacre Records by four albums in 2006. In February 2007, the indexing of wound water followed . Blood vessels appeared punctually on April 27, 2007.

Eisregen hired a session musician with the pseudonym "Frau N. Feind" for the studio recordings of Blutbahnen , who recorded the violin parts because Theresa had left the band. The violin parts on this album were used more sparsely than on the previous albums. The keyboard passages were extended for this.

In the booklet - as on the Hexenhaus -MCD - not all texts were printed. In “Eisenkreuzkrieger”, “Frischtot”, “Schlachthausblues” and “Back to the Colony” there are only short excerpts from them in order to prevent the album from being indexed.

The album was received with mixed opinions by the fan base, as the musical and vocal change and development of the band is now clearly noticeable, which was already noticeable on the previous album Wundwasser and the Hexenhaus single. Especially the places with clear singing have increased on bloodstream .

Originally the sixth album was supposed to be called "Menschenmaterial", which was also announced in the booklet of Wundwasser and Hexenhaus and was supposed to represent the end of the band. However, it was decided to make an album called Blutbahnen first after the band had found pleasure in the music again. In the booklet of the CD, however, there is the announcement that the next CD will be called the Bone Cult, which means that human material will not appear anytime soon.

Prelude: A little battle music

It is the first song in the group that consists purely of instrumental music . The song goes almost seamlessly into the song "Eisenkreuzkrieger".

The title is based on Mozart's Little Night Music .

Iron Cross Warrior

The song is set on the German Eastern Front at the time of World War II . The protagonist, a German soldier, from whose point of view the text of the song is written, managed, together with his comrade Franz, to survive the night barrage as the only one in the company (“We are the last of 112”). The cold in Russia is almost unbearable, only the hope of returning to his wife and children keeps him alive. Finally he warms himself on his comrade at night, finally cuts his throat in a maddened state and eats the flesh of the dead man. The next morning he is found by a Russian who kills him with a head shot.

In December 2007 a T-shirt was issued for the song, on the back of which the sentence “Franz was now my provisions” was printed together with an iron cross . The obverse showed a soldier in a snowy landscape.

In the wall of thorns

The song, which deals with human transience and the question of the meaning of a life full of suffering with the metaphorical representation of the wall of thorns, was written by Roth shortly after his father's funeral .

17 candles on the cathedral

“17 Candles at the Cathedral” is the band's first song that tries to truthfully reproduce a real event. Here one refers to the rampage in Erfurt and takes a clear stand against the act. The band's statement by singer Michael Roth was:

“To put it bluntly: I consider what happened to be the deeds of a psychopath. The text itself is researched on the basis of the police reports, the final evaluation on my part in the last stanzas and in the chorus makes it clear that I clearly condemn these kinds of rampages. The violence in our plays is fictional and serves exclusively to entertain the musicians or fans, whatever it may be. The violence at the Gutenberg High School was real, despicable and should not be forgotten. "

- Michael Roth

Back to the colony

Announcing the list of titles that have already been announced before the show, the song served as advertising, as it is the continuation of the eponymous song on the indexed and distribution ban standing Album cancer colony represents. The protagonist, who gave himself the deadly bullet there at the end, is physically dead, but the virus has also mutated his mind so that it is not possible for him to die. Death eventually makes him his tool of the trade and sends him back to the cancer colony, where he makes a cancer-resistant body his own. After all, he moves around with an army of cancer patients to kill the last of the negatives. After 12 years, humanity is no longer alive and the protagonist ties the last noose that will break his neck.

Get a

Shortly after the album was released, a single called "Eine haben" was released, on which, in addition to the title song, the titles "Schlachthaus-Blues", "Alphawolf", "Blutbahnen" and "Schneuz den Kasper" were available in alternative vocal versions. According to statements by the band, it was said that fans, for whom the singing on blood vessels is too much clearer, can put together an individual blood vessel album. On the limited edition of it there was also a poster of the band, which can also be purchased in the Klangkreis Thuringia .

However, as with most bands, there was no pre-release of a song as a single.

Presentation

Due to contact problems with Massacre Records , some errors arose in the optical design of the album. The title list on the back lacks the intro “Auftakt: Eine kleine Schlachtmusik” and the number of songs there actually shrinks from eleven to ten. Also, the song titles are not always given correctly on the back. For example, instead of “Im Dornenwall” only “Thornwall” and instead of “A touch of mange” just “A touch of mange”. Color matching errors can also be seen in the booklet itself and the font is often barely legible due to the similar background. No images from splatter films or specially commissioned artwork were used, as was used until the album Wundwasser . This time, the images used were all created by Michael Roth himself. The font used consists of a broken font that was transferred 1: 1 from the Antiqua . The typical font of the band, which Yantit designed, can only be found in the logo.

Indexing request

On May 8, 2008, the album was checked by the committee of twelve of the Federal Testing Agency for Media Harmful to Young People on the basis of an index application from the Würzburg police station. However, a two-thirds majority was against indexing the work. Blood vessels thus remained freely available for sale. According to the statement of the singer Michael Roth all songs except for “Im Dornenwall” had been objected to, the non-indexing he described as “a victory for [the] freedom of expression and art”.
