Roberto "Bobby" Alfonso Farrell (born October 6, 1949 in Sint Nicolaas , Aruba , Netherlands Antilles ; † December 30, 2010 in Saint Petersburg , Russia ) was a Dutch DJ and dancer who was a member of the particularly successful music group in the 1970s Boney M. became known.

Early years

Farrell was born on the island of Aruba in the Lesser Antilles , where he lived until he was 15 years old. After finishing school, he worked as a seaman for two years until he settled in Norway . From Norway he moved to the Netherlands , where he worked as a disc jockey (DJ). He later moved to Germany .

Years with Boney M.

In Germany he mainly worked as a DJ until he was won over by Frank Farian as a dancer for his group Boney M. in 1976 . He contributed to the success of the group through his extravagant dance choreographies on TV and live. The group's male singing voice was from Farian. Farrell moved his lips to music and singing from the tape (full playback ) when performing .

1982 Farrell was replaced by Reggie Tsiboe at Boney M. after quarrels with Farian , but returned to the group in 1984 after the differences were resolved. From 1992 Farrell appeared - against Farian's will - with his own Boney-M. formation. Farrell appeared as a dancer in the 2005 video clip Turn on the Music by Roger Sanchez . From 1981 to 1994 he was married to a Yugoslav photo model.

Later years and death

On December 30, 2010, Farrell was found dead in his hotel room in Saint Petersburg while on a concert tour. According to the autopsy report, he died of heart failure. The burial took place on January 8, 2011 in the Zorgvlied cemetery in Amsterdam. Farrell lived in the Gaasperdam district in Amsterdam-Zuidoost . He had only moved to Amstelveen a year before his death .
