The Bodega Enrique Vollmer is a winery in the Valle de Uco , south of Mendoza in Argentina . The winery has been owned by the German winemaker Heinrich Vollmer since 1987 , who has been running a winery in Ellerstadt / Pfalz since 1972 .

history

Heinrich Vollmer found his second home southwest of Mendoza, in the Valle de Uco , in the late 1980s. He bought 300 hectares of land. Today the area along the Tunuyán River is one of the wine regions of Argentina . Enrique (Heinrich) Vollmer has rebuilt the winery since 1987. The winery's proceeds were reinvested in the bodega . Ten large indigenous families are employed on site all year round. Around 190 children, some of them from the surrounding area, attend the school and have lunch there. Heinrich “Enrique” Vollmer is a hobby of extreme mountaineering . On a tour onNevado Huascarán had an accident in 1983. He was in the ice for about five days until two Peruvians rescued him. At home in Germany he was considered missing and was eventually pronounced dead. In gratitude for saving his life, Heinrich Vollmer decided on his return to do something for the indigenous peoples who experience discrimination in their own country. The rescue of an Argentine mountain hunter at Aconcagua in 1986 gave him the unexpected opportunity to acquire land in Argentina and thus create jobs. The winemaker spends around four to six months a year on his bodega, taking care of the vineyards and wines . The wines from Bodega Enrique Vollmer have a star on each label, a symbol for Venus .

region

The Valle de Uco in western Argentina has a good climate, mineral-rich soils and little rainfall. The heights of the Andes convert the humid west winds into dry and hot air currents and ensure a continental semi-desert climate . Strong differences in the seasons with hot summers and cool winters ensure a high sugar content in the grapes and healthy vines. Cool summer nights ensure the formation of the fragrances in the grapes and there are over 300 sunny days a year. The low rainfall of 100 to 300 mm per year requires artificial irrigation of the vineyards. At Bodega Enrique Vollmer, this is done via a waterworks that is fed with water from the Andean rivers.

Wines or viticulture

The grapes from Bodega Enrique Vollmer ripen at an altitude of up to 1100 meters at the foot of the Andes . The volcanic soil on which the vines grow is rich in minerals and therefore does not require any artificial fertilization. The low humidity also reduces infestation by pests or diseases. The wines are matured on site in stainless steel tanks in the bodega's wine cellar . The wines are sold through the German winery.

The following types of wine are made at Bodega Enrique Vollmer:

The estate has around 190 hectares of yielding vineyards and produces 100,000 liters of white wines and 900,000 liters of red wines annually.
