Bodyfarm is a Dutch death metal band from Amersfoort that was founded in 2009.

history

The band was founded in the late summer of 2009 by drummer Quint Meerbeek and singer and guitarist Thomas Wouters. A first self-titled EP was released that year . A music video was also created for the single Slaves of War . After guitarist Bram Hilhorst and bassist Mathieu Westerveld joined the band, the debut album Malevolence was released in 2012 via Cyclone Empire . The album includes a Massacre cover with Cryptic Realms , with Kam Lee as a guest singer. In September 2013, the second album The Coming Scourge was released on the same label . Guest musicians include the Once Begotten singer Dirk Willems and the Hail of Bullets guitarist Stephan Gebédi. The Bathory song Enter the Eternal Fire is included as the cover on the album . The album was later also re-released in the US on Metal Blade Records . Unbroken was released as a single from the album . Then Westerveld left the band and was replaced by bassist Harry van Breda. In 2015 he was again replaced by Alex Seegers. So far the band has been able to perform at the Zombie Fest , the Eindhoven Metal Meeting , the Extremefest , the Hell Inside , the Mass Deathtruction , the Neurotic Deathfest and the Summer Breeze as well as together with bands such as Asphyx , Death DTA , Hail of Bullets, Hypocrisy , Nile , Obituary and Unleashed play. In November 2015, the band's third album, Battle Breed , which was produced and mixed by Ronnie Björnström , was released via Cyclone Empire.

style

In their band biography on bodyfarmdeathmetal.com the band claims to play old school death metal. On the EP she tried to process riffs in the style of Asphyx, Bolt Thrower , Dismember , Grave and Obituary. Melissa Collins from metal-temple.com found in her review of Malevolence that the group played little innovative and poorly produced old school death metal of the 1990s on the previous EP. This has changed with the debut album. The speed of the songs is often high. On the sound carrier the group mixes old-school-death-metal with their own ideas. In most of the songs the group used palm muting and double bass typical of Thrash Metal . The songs would cover topics such as hatred, death, war, and the rejection of war. Collins heard influences from Bolt Thrower and Slayer .

Reini from stormbringer.at noted in his review of The Coming Scourge that the band's instrumental sound is like Death Metal. The vocals, however, sound more like Peter Steele in Carnivore's time . The songs are mostly in the medium speed range, which is reminiscent of Hail of Bullets and Gorefest . In songs like the theme song, however, the band increases the speed significantly. Vortex of Terror offers a lot of speed variations , and with Eden's Destruction there is an acoustic piece. The Frozen Halls sounds like a mixture of Asphyx and Doom Metal . Overall, the album offers versatile Death Metal.

Diana Glöckner from Metal Hammer also described the music on Malevolence as old-school death metal. After an atmospheric piano intro, Death Metal follows, which groove “heavy and powerful into the brain stem” . The song will be very deep growls , but was understandable. In a later edition Glöckner stated that the group on The Coming Scourge cannot maintain the level of their predecessor, but offer convincing Death Metal. Death Metal is still classic and catchy, with frequent tempo changes being characteristic.
