history

At the end of the 17th century, today's urban area was on the border of two manors , Blainville in the west and Terrebonne in the east. As the first French settler, the carpenter Antoine Feuillon settled down in 1684, who received the right to use a maple forest. Feuillon could neither read nor write and therefore failed to notice that the authorities often misspelled his name. The name Filion soon caught on. A well- used path led through the forest of the Filion family (French: bois des Filion ), but it was not until the beginning of the 20th century that a notable settlement began to develop. In 1925 the bridge was built over the Rivière des Mille Îles, and in 1949 the municipality of Bois-des-Filion was founded. This received city status in 1980. Bois-des-Filion has been part of the Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal association since 2000 .
