Bombardier Regional Jet Expansion

The Bombardier BRJX or B ombardier R egional Jet e X pansion was a project for a short-haul aircraft for 80 to 120 passengers in order to follow the trend towards larger regional aircraft. However, the project was discontinued in favor of extended versions of the Bombardier CRJ .

In contrast to its 2 + 2 seat arrangement, the BRJX was to have a 2 + 3 seat arrangement, as well as a higher cargo capacity, the engines would have been placed from the stern under the wings; But this would also have rivaled Airbus and Boeing with their A318 and Boeing 717 or Boeing 737-600 models . Bombardier did not want to take this risk and stopped the program. Bombardier's competitors Embraer and Dornier, however, continued to develop their comparable projects, namely the Embraer E-Jets and the Dornier 728 family , the latter project never getting beyond the first load tests with the prototype due to bankruptcy.

The BRJX program was later revived in the form of the Bombardier CSeries , a medium -haul jet for the market from 100 to 149 seats. The C-Series is built in Montreal.
