Bonifacius Wolfhart

Bonifacius Wolfhart, also Bonifacius Lycosthenes (* around 1490 in Buchen , † May 1543 in Weil der Stadt ), was a theologian and reformer .

Life

Wolfhart studied in Basel and Strasbourg from 1517 to 1520 . In 1523 he came to Augsburg and became pastor at St. Moritz, in 1527 he was a teacher of Hebrew in Strasbourg, in 1531 he was again in Augsburg and pastor of St. Anne's Church until 1534, then again at St. Moritz. In the Augsburg Last Supper Controversy, he came out strongly as a member of the Zwinglische party. Among other things, he claimed that Martin Luther accused them of teaching about the Lord's Supper in the same way as the Bohemians. Martin Bucer therefore did not agree to his posting to Wittenberg in 1536. Above all, Wolfhart protested against the "substantialiter" and "corporaliter". In Augsburg, however, he retained his strong position. Despite his restrictions, he signed the Wittenberg Agreement and the Schmalkaldic Articles . The hymn "In God's grace all things lift up" goes back to Wolfhart.
