Bonifaz Räss also Bonifatius Räss (* July 2, 1848 in Chur , † April 11, 1928 in Altstätten , entitled to reside in Appenzell ) was a Swiss Catholic theologian .

Life

Bonifaz Räss was born in Chur on July 12, 1848, the son of the shoemaker Josef Räss and the Agatha born Pool. After attending school in Chur, where he was particularly influenced by Theodosius Florentini , he began studying theology in Monza in 1867 , which he continued from 1868 at the Collegium Helveticum in Milan , in Chur and Innsbruck . In 1871 he was ordained a priest .

He performed his first pastoral service from 1871 to 1881 as a chaplain in Mels . Subsequently, Bonifaz Räss worked from 1881 to 1888 as a pastor in Marbach , from 1888 to 1908 in Appenzell, where he was also episcopal commissioner, and from 1908 to 1912 in Bernhardzell and finally as a spiritual director in the Kreuzspital Chur. From 1920 he lived as a resignation in the priest home Altstätten. In 1921 Räss was appointed prelate and papal secret chamberlain . He died on April 11, 1928 a few months before he was 80 years old.

Act

In the "spirit of Florentini" he initiated and financed the restoration of the parish church of Appenzell from 1890 to 1892 with further work up to 1907 as well as the construction of the community center, which lasted from 1901 to 1903, as a successful donation collector and from his own resources . In 1908 he founded the Appenzell College .
