Borishanskiit is a very rarely occurring mineral from the mineral class of sulfides and sulfosalts . It crystallizes in the orthorhombic crystal system with the chemical composition of Pd (As, Pb) 2 and forms up to 150 microns large grains of dark gray color, in other sulfides included are.

Etymology and history

The mineral was found in 1974 by LW Rasin, LS Dubakina, WI Meschankina and VD Begizovin from the Talnakh type locality near Norilsk in Russia . It was named after the Russian mineralogist Serafima Samoilovna Borischanskaja (1907–1988).

classification

In the Strunz system , borishanskiite is counted among the sulfides and sulfosalts. According to the 8th edition , together with Froodit and Urvantsevit , it forms a subgroup of sulfides with a ratio of metal to sulfur, selenium or tellurium of <1: 1. In the 9th edition , it forms with iridarsenite a subgroup of the compounds of semimetals with platinum group elements (PGE), which is one of the alloys and alloy-like compounds.

In the Dana system , it forms its own subgroup of sulfides, selenides and tellurides with the composition A m B n X p , with (m + n): p = 1: 2.

Education and Locations

Borishanskiite is formed in sulfidic copper - nickel ores. It is associated with nickel line , pentlandite , cubanite , chalcopyrite , magnetite , pyrrhotite , zvyagintsevite and atokite .

Finds are so far only known from its type locality.

Crystal structure

Borishanskiite crystallizes in the orthorhombic crystal system in the space group Ccm2 1 with the lattice parameters a = 7.18  Å , b = 8.62 Å and c = 10.66 Å as well as 16 formula units per unit cell .
