The Born miller Ragwurz ( Ophrys bornmuelleri ) is a kind of the genus Ragwurzen ( Ophrys ) in the family of the Orchid Family (Orchidaceae). A synonym is Ophrys fuciflora subsp. bornmuelleri (M. Schulze) B.Willing & E.Willing .

This herbaceous perennial plant reaches heights of between 15 and 50 cm.

The inflorescence includes four to fifteen flowers . The sepals are green to whitish or reddish in color. The lip, which is hairy all around and strongly humped, looks trapezoidal or square when viewed from above. At the front you can find a big appendix. The mark appears mostly H-shaped and is branched laterally.

The flowering period extends from March to May.

Location and distribution

This species prefers light forests, garrigues and grasslands with soils rich in bases . In the mountains you can find them up to a height of 1000 meters above sea ​​level . The distribution area extends over the Middle East , Cyprus , Levant , Southeast Anatolia and Iraqi Kurdistan .

Systematics

One can distinguish between two subspecies:

  • Ophrys bornmuelleri subsp. bornmuelleri : It occurs in Cyprus, Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Israel and northern Iraq at sea levels between 0 and 1400 meters.
  • Kurdish Ragwort ( Ophrys bornmuelleri subsp. Carduchorum Renz & Taubenheim ): It occurs in southeastern Anatolia at altitudes between 600 and 1000 meters above sea level.
