Bosteri is a town in the Kyrgyz region of Issyk Kul in the east of the Central Asian country. With 7,415 inhabitants (as of 2009), Bosteri is one of the largest towns on the shores of the Issykköl mountain lake .

location

Bosteri lies at a good 1610 meters above sea level on the north bank of the Issyk Kul , a mountain lake in the Tian Shan . The Kyrgyz capital Bishkek is about 260 kilometers to the west. With the trunk road A363 the most important road connection in the Issykköl area runs through Bosteri and connects the place with Karakol , the regional capital in the southeast of Bosteri. With Korumdu in the east and Tscholponata in the west, Bosteri is surrounded by other tourist resorts.

economy

tourism

The economy in Bosteri is almost entirely dependent on tourism. Tourists appreciate the region for the untouched and beautiful nature around Issyk Kul and in the adjacent Tian Shan Mountains. Hotels and facilities for tourism were built in Bosteri as early as the Soviet times and the place was popular with tourists from the Soviet Union . Even today, large parts of the tourist infrastructure on Issyk Kul originate from the Soviet period. Nevertheless, Bosteri is still a popular tourist destination and largely dependent on this source of income. This fact means that Bosteri is extremely animated in summer, but almost extinct in winter. The pleasant temperatures in summer, which are mostly between 20 and 25 ° Celsius, attract tourists, while in the cold winter hardly any travelers come to Bosteri.

There are numerous hotels in Bosteri, some with direct beach locations and in an upscale price range. There are also two sanatoriums and several rest homes in Bosteri. In Bosteri there is also the largest Ferris wheel in Kyrgyzstan, which offers a beautiful view of the surrounding landscape. Swimming in Issyk Kul and hiking in the Tian Shan are particularly popular with tourists.

bazaar

Another economic factor for Bosteri is the large bazaar at the city exit. There is a wide range of food and other goods here, and the prices are considered low.

Movie

The short film Bosteri unterm Rad by the young German director Levin Hübner documents the effects of mass tourism in Bosteri and the contrast between the main season in summer and the emptiness in winter. The film has been shown at numerous festivals, including the 2014 Berlin International Film Festival .
