The Bourbeuse is a river in eastern France . Together with the Ruisseau de Saint-Nicolas , the Bourbeuse forms an approx. 40 km long tributary of the Allaine in the catchment area of the Rhône . Both hydrologically and hydrographically form a river course. It flows through the French Territoire de Belfort in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region . “Bourbeuse” is generally only a 10-kilometer section of the water.

geography

The Bourbeuse arises at an altitude of 340 meters in the plain of the Burgundian Gate , in the municipality of Autrechêne , from the confluence of the two source streams Saint-Nicolas and Madeleine . With various meanders, the river meanders through an approximately 1.5 kilometer wide valley floor to the southwest. The floodplain with fertile alluvial soils is mainly used for agriculture, but there are also some ecologically valuable swamp areas as breeding grounds for numerous species of birds and amphibians. As the lowest connection between the Doubs and the Upper Rhine between the Vosges in the north and the Jura in the south, the valley level is also used by the Rhine-Rhône Canal .

On its short course, the Bourbeuse takes on several streams that drain the surrounding plateaus, including the Ruisseau de l'Écrevisse (from the south) and the Prelle and the Ruisseau de l'Étang (from the north). After crossing the village of Bourogne , the Bourbeuse joins the Allaine, which is named Allan below this confluence .

Hydrology

The Bourbeuse has a pluvial discharge regime with strongly fluctuating water levels. Floods can occur in the winter months and in spring during the snowmelt in the Vosges and later in the year during strong thunderstorms or prolonged rainfall.

Remarks

  1. Since the river length of around 40 kilometers on the relevant website sandre.eaufrance.fr/ obviously also includes the course of the Ruisseau de Saint-Nicolas, the remaining section was estimated at around 10 kilometers.
