Bradley is a small town in Lafayette County in the southwest of the US state Arkansas .

It is part of the Ark-La-Tex socio-economic region that arose between the states of Arkansas, Louisiana , Oklahoma, and Texas . Bradley is at the junction of Arkansas Highway 29 and Arkansas Highway 160 and, according to the United States Census Bureau, has a total area of ​​0.9 square miles (2.3 km²) excluding land.

Bradley was originally a Walnut Hill railroad station named after James Sevier Conway's son-in-law , WC Bradley.

Demographics

At the time of the US Census in 2000, the United States Census , lived in the city of 563 people, there were 223 households and 134 families. The population density was 236.3 inhabitants per km ². There were 285 housing units at an average density of 311.2 per square mile (119.6 per km²).

52.40 percent of the people living in the city were black or African American, 46.36 percent were white, 0.89 percent were of two or more races , 0.71 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino, and 0.36 Percent of Asian origin.

In 223 households there were 30 percent children under the age of 18, 32.7 percent were married couples living together, 22.4 percent had a housekeeper without a husband, and 39.9 percent were no families. 37.2 percent of all households were made up of individuals and 20.6 percent had people who were 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.52 and the average family size was 3.38 people.

The age structure in the city consisted of 33.6 percent of under 18-year-olds, 9.6 percent were between 18 and 24 years old, 23.1 percent were between 25 and 44 years old, 17.9 percent were between 45 and 45 years old 64 years and 15.8 percent were 65 years of age or older; the median age was 31 years. For every 100 women there were 80.4 men, and for women over 18 there were 70.8 men.

The median income for a household in the year was $ 14,375 and that of a family was $ 19,306. Men had an average income of $ 21,719 and women one of $ 14,688. The city's per capita income was $ 2,455. Around 43.9 percent of all families and 49.6 percent of the population were below the poverty line , including 66.5 percent of those under 18 and 42.2 percent of those over 65.

In 2010 Bradley had 628 inhabitants which corresponds to a population density of 266.1 inhabitants per km². In 2017, an estimated 550 people lived in the city. The next census will take place in 2020.

education

Bradley is part of the Emerson-Taylor-Bradley School District and provides public education for elementary and secondary school students through Bradley Elementary School and Bradley High School. The mascot and athletic emblem of the schools is the bear, the school colors are purple and gold.

The Bradley School District was merged with the Emerson-Taylor School District on July 1, 2013.

Personalities

The Hope native American basketball player Greg Davis attended Bradley High School.
