Branislav "Brana" Crnčević (born February 8, 1933 in Kovačica , Kingdom of Yugoslavia ; † April 14, 2011 in Belgrade ) was a Yugoslav politician , writer and aphorist who became known in German-speaking countries primarily for the aphorisms in the book state examination .

Life

After attending school, Crnčević studied at the University of Belgrade and then worked as an office worker in Zrenjanin and a brewery in Novi Sad before starting to work as a journalist . Initially he worked for the newspapers Jež , Mali Jež and Duga and wrote columns for the magazines NIN and the daily Politika .

He made his literary debut in 1963 with the children's book Bosonogi i nebo , which was followed by around thirty other books over the decades. In addition to children's books and novels , he also wrote aphorisms, stories , songs and television games . His best-known aphorisms appeared in 1966 for the first time in a German translation under the title Staatsexamen . Other well-known books by him were Govori kao što ćutiš (1966, German title: Say what you feel) and Mrav dobra srca (1969, German title: The good heart of the ants).

In the 1990s, Crnčević, who was a friend of Slobodan Milošević , also began to become increasingly politically active and was initially a member of Srpska Demokratska Stranka (SDS), founded in 1990, and then of Srpska Radikalna Stranka (SRS), founded in 1991 . In 1996 he became a member of the Senate of the Republic of Serbia ( Senata Republike Srpske ) and in 2008 was one of the founders of Srpska Napredna Stranka (SNS), which emerged from the split of the SRS .

His last book Šta ima was published in 2010 .
